Palace Downtown

For a true Arabian fairytale right in the middle of our fair town, the Palace Downtown is an ideal place to stay. Authentic Arabic-inspired interior design, complete with wooden arches, arabesque designs and marble finishings, gives this five star hotel a local feel that also manages to look modern. Stuck in Dubai this summer, we thought it a perfect time to experience a staycation and enjoy being in the heart of Downtown Dubai for a night. The hotel is literally steps away from Souk Al Bahar, Dubai Mall, the Boulevard sprinkled with cafes and restaurants, and a handful of other trendy hotels to explore. If not for 45 degree heat, I would have spent ages perfecting a shot in front of...

St Regis Saadiyat Island

This stunning hotel is more like a small village than a typical luxury resort. Everything about it feels grand and yet, somehow, attentive staff and the busy common areas like the pool and restaurants will make you feel at home. We wanted a staycation with our toddler and this beautiful hotel exceeded our expectations! The Welcome Just over an hour drive from Dubai, we reached the hotel and all said: "Whoooa" at the grand driveway and entrance. There was a bit of a queue to check in, so we used the time to take photos and enjoy the welcome drink and cool towels given to us by attendants. When it was our turn, we found we had been upgraded to a suite because...

Top 5 Ramadan Dubai Hotel Iftars 2018

Dubai's beautiful hotels go all out in celebration of the holy season, and while I prefer a calm iftar at home with family where we can give leftovers to those in need, I do enjoy experiencing the beauty of tradition the way these five star hotels interpret it as a night out every now and then. So much thought is put into presentation of food, twinkling lights and lanterns, the live oud player, the majlis seating and so much more. So, here's a round up of some of my personal favorite Dubai hotel Iftar buffets in Ramadan 2018! Manzil Downtown Decorated with charming Ramadan lanterns, crescents and glorious lights, Manzil Downtown's courtyard is a great place for observers to break the fast with hot...

The Oberoi Al Zorah

I've been to Fujeirah and Ras Al Khaimah a handful of times, but didn't know much about Ajman - only a half hour drive  from Dubai with a cleaner beach, I'm told. A lot of major five star hotel chains have opened here recently, including Fairmont, Saray Luxury Collection and Kempinski, so I was curious about what the hype was all about. We decided to try the recently opened, sleek Oberoi Al Zorah as a staycation and were blown away by its aesthetic - so modern and serene. It's like a Japanese zen garden on the beach...

Valsana

Reviewed exclusively for Holidays in Heels by travel pros Laura Brown and Laura Snook of LawrenceTravel! Valsana Hotel and Apartments, Arosa, Switzerland On the edge of a forest line of pine trees, the newly opened Valsana Hotel and Apartments greets visitors with a young and inspiring vibe. The hotel has decided on a new hotel concept where healthy choices are at its helm. As soon as I walk into the sliding doors, the reception hands over my access card to just about everything – the card resembles an 80’s cassette tape, a hint to what comes next. The Welcome With this access card you become the resident in your own stylish, and eco-friendly I might add, abode on any of the five floors....

Eden Roc

When the hotel is located on a crystal clear lake, with a backdrop of mountains and villages in the distance, waving palm trees on the coiffured lawn and not far from ancient stone houses and small alleyways, it is pretty much a given the place is called Eden. Eden Roc, to be completely correct and honestly, it surely fits all the anticipation, write travel pros Laura Brown and Laura Snook in this exclusive review of Switzerland's finest. The Welcome Situated along Lake Maggiore, the Swiss twin of Italian Lake Como – similar in style yet almost more picturesque and for sure less popular with the paparazzi, Eden Roc holds the fort with exquisite taste. Spread out over two large buildings the hotel...

Park Hyatt St Kitts

Reviewed by a former Times of London and FT travel writer exclusively for Holidays in Heels! The Welcome The twin island nation of St Kitts & Nevis in the eastern Caribbean – once famous only for its sugar plantations and a visit nearly 20 years ago by Lady Di and her sons William and Harry – is fast becoming the premier luxury getaway in the region, threatening to eclipse rivals such as Antigua and Saint Lucia. There is no greater example of this than the recently opened Park Hyatt Saint Kitts, the brand’s first foray into the Caribbean. Set in Banana Bay, less than half an hour’s drive from the airport and the capital Basseterre, the gently sloping beach is dotted with...

W Hotel Miami

*Reviewed exclusively for Holidays in Heels by a NY based jetsetter! There is nothing like that first drive in a new city after arriving in the airport. After landing in Florida, as the taxi expertly winded down roads and weaved through lanes on wide set bridges, I was soaking in every detail of the city I could manage. I knew we were close to the hotel once we reached the famous Ocean Drive on ‘SoBe’ i.e. South Beach Area – a strip of cafes and bars overlooking the ocean. Women walked around sporting fluorescent colored crop tops and high-waisted tiny jean shorts while the men walked with a lazy strut. Food trucks were on every corner, emanating the scents of a...

Wolgan Valley Resort & Spa

Reviewed for us by Australian blogger Claire Hastings! For those who aren’t in the blogger ‘line of business’ it’s sometimes difficult to comprehend that it’s not all just chill and relaxed sitting at the computer with the ideas just pouring like waterfalls. Even though it’s a fabulous job, one that I hardly consider a job given how strong my love for it is, it can be quite taxing. That is why, just like any other person in the world, every now and then, when I can take the time to catch my breath I am in desperate need of some quality alone time, far from everyone’s sight. I felt drained and truly needed to unwind and recharge my batteries, and I...
